Meet Sheldon Lavin, The Man Behind the Success of OSI Group.

Sheldon Lavin, the Chief Executive Officer of OSI Group, has a very high profile in the global meat and food processing industry. Lavin was first involved with OSI Group in the 1970s as a financial consultant at a time when the company needed financing to expand operations. Back then, the company was called Otto & Sons and provided meat products to McDonald’s. After being actively involved in the financial operations of the company, Lavin went on to become a partner in 1975 and later took full control of the company.

OSI Group grew from a local food processing company to a global industry leader under Lavin’s leadership and vision. Lavin planned joint ventures to allow his company distribute meat throughout North America and Europe in the 1970s. Expansions into China, Philipines, South Africa, Japan, and India followed, adding to the substantial presence the country already had in Europe and America. Today, OSI Group is the large protein supplier to a variety of retail brands and foodservice. They also produce some sauces, baked goods, and vegetable.

Sheldon Lavin has developed a unique culture at OSI Group which has seen the company transform from a small supplier to a worldwide supplier of food products. It’s a family-oriented culture where all OSI Group employees are treated as a global family. As a result, most employees work for the company for many years and the company has minimal staff turnover. Lavin believes that it is the knowledge brought in by each of his employees that has led to the success of his company.

Sheldon Lavin’s business performance and contribution in positioning OSI Group on the global podium has earned him many awards. Among his awards is the Global Visionary Award he received from India’s Vision World Academy which recognizes people who have accomplished their dreams through perseverance and persistence. OSI Group has also received many awards under Sheldon Lavin’s watch for safety risks, environmental conservation, and health management. The company was awarded the Globe of Honor Award by the British Safety Council for adopting creative techniques to minimize environmental pollution.

Lavin’s creative skills have created jobs for more than 20, 000 people who are currently employees of OSI Group. Being an active contributor to charities, he is also recognized for his philanthropic efforts. The most notable charities he contributes to include the Ronald McDonald House Charities, Jewish United Fund, Boys and Girls Clubs of Chicago and United Negra College Fund, just to name a few. Lavin has developed a company that is passionate about giving back to the community.

At 81, Sheldon Lavin is still working hard to expand OSI Group. He hopes OSI Group will maintain its market presence as well as make entry into more countries. Though he knows that one day he will retire, he believes that the energetic and talented people he works with will propel the company further.
